James Keith, an Episcopalian minister known as Parson Keith, emigrated from his native Scotland, where he was a professor of the Mareschal College of Aberdeen, after having been involved in the Stuart uprising, and came to Virginia ca 1719. He married Mary Isham Randolph and died in Prince William County in 1754, leaving issue.

The James Keith file includes information on 1301 descendants with 272 different surnames. It covers ten generations, with the earliest birth occurring in ca 1696.
