He was a member of the Twenty-fourth North Carolina Regiment, Col. W J Clark, Floyd's Brigade, until the disbanding of that brigade in January, 1863. He then enlisted under Col. John S Mosby in Company B, Forthy-third Virginia Battalion. He was captured February 18, 1864, and was kept a prisoner first at Fort Warren in Boston Harbor and later at Fort Delaware until released June 29, 1865."
