This union was blessed with the birth of the following sons and daughters: Claude, Eddie, Lewellyn, Cornelius, Haynie, Mary, Jennie, and Mrs. Wesley Irby of Blackstone. Eugene Barnes, an adopted son, was to her as though he were her own.
She is survived by all of the above named children, and also by two brothers, Henry Hite, of Kenbridge, and Kenneth Hite, of Raleigh, N C and by the following sisters, Mrs William Irby, of Blackstone, Mrs. Sallie H McDaneil, of Danville and Mrs Solon Orgain, of Kenbridge, and also by seventeen grandchildren.

Mrs. Barnes early in life united with the Medthodist Church, of which she was a faithful and consistent member to the day of her death. Her home was always positively Christian, and she taught her children to fear and honor God. They rise up to call her blessed, and cherish sweet and precious memories of her beautiful character. For some time before her death she was an invalid, but bore her sufferings with Christian fortitude and cheerful submission to the dispensation of divine providence which she never questioned. The world is better because she lived in it, and her presence and influence for good will be greatly missed, but our loss is her eternal gain.
